Bright jewel tones is most commonly used to characterise the palette of Early Netherlandish artists, including Jan van Eyck, Hugo van der Goes, Gerard David, Hieronymus Bosch, Dieric Bouts. It is also favored by Italian artists of the fifteenth century, in some cases influenced by Netherlandish painting. Examples include Venetian school artists Carlo Crivelli, Antonello da Messina, Giovanni Bellini, as well as artists of the Ferrarese schoool, Cosimo Tura, Ercole de’Roberti, Lorenzo Costa.
